Location: Mountain Center, CA
No, this is NOT the Baldy Mountain you’re thinking of. This one is near Idylwild and it only has an elevation of 5571 feet. The trail to the top does pass through a section of private property. Baldy Mountain sits on the northern tip of a grassy plateau which has a grazing allotment. From the summit, we will drop down to the west end of 5S08 Ridge for views and lunch. A moderate 8.4 miles with 1,396 feet of climb.
Directions: Take I-215 to CA-74 and head east towards Hemet. Stay on CA-74 for 31.5 miles to Mountain Center. Where the road forks, turn left on CA-243 and proceed 75 feet. Mountain Center Fork & Spoon will be on the right at 29470 CA-243. We will head for the trailhead promptly at 10:00 am about a mile down the road towards Palm Desert.
